Problem: Z steering sways a bit when making a sudden stop and also it is really noticeable as I am moving from lane to lane. Driving straight doesn't appear to be a problem (minimal drift on level road) and steering wheel has some play but not anything dramatic IMO. Did a search and with that info I lifted car: Both tension rod bushings are kaput/cracked. Had neighbor turn steering while I was underneath Z and rack seems fairly responsive. However, there is a leak. I did put in new tie rods and had an alignment a few weeks ago and it helped a little with the sway. Also sway bar bushings are in good shape (replaced with ES bushings a few years ago). With 175,000 miles...I am "guessing" my rack is the culprit. But also noticed in search that shot tension rods can cause this also. Am I on the right track in my diagnosis?
